LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES broadband division - MILPITAS, CA
The “Flag series” was a reaction to Lucent’s request to develop an art program that integrated original art but worked within their budget. The series was a direct response to that request and was inspired by Lucent’s presence in 34 countries. We set out to find an emerging artist that could capture the essence of the Client’s request for art that did not appear contrived or too technical. We were pleased to commission Laura Dahlbeck out of the three reveiwed and felt that her work exhibited a painterly quality that was abstract yet emotive as well.
The Lucent “Flag series” has received great acclaim as well as served as colorful inspiration to the employee’s that work there.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Laura Dahlbeck has been producing artwork for 10 years – and has been studying painting at the San Francisco Art Institute for the past 6 years. She works in oil, pastel, charcoal, watercolor and mixed media. Her work has been purchased by several private parties and corporations in the US – and is available through clement mac design.
“In the “Flag” series, I wanted to create and capture the textural marriage of water and paper. All of the paintings began with soaking and drying the paper, and applying a wash and various glazes. Then several techniques and mediums were added for yet texture – wet on wet, dry-brushing, paper washing, colored pencil, ink and crayondage. I tried to find a striking contrast between the airy, translucent quality of watercolor and the “rough” textures created from saturated paper. I kept the compositions simple allowing the spontaneous patterns and textures of the background to create unique “identities” for each of the countries”
